A Simple Piece Of Cloth
A Simple Piece Of Cloth
As the play unfolds, “A Simple Piece of Cloth,” by Jeffrey D. J. Kallenberg, brings to life the challenges faced by an ordinary middle-class, yet extraordinary, American family of the 1960’s. “Cloth” confronts what at first appears to be a rather simple issue: which grandchild will inherit the tallis; i.e., prayer shawl, of their recently deceased grandfather. The play is a humorous, yet poignant, examination of many American families as they confront everyday values, assimilation, and the meaning of fulfilling the American Dream.
